“If prime minister has practically attacked anybody, it is the CAG. It is a matter of surprise,” Advani said.

“I have been disappointed by his statement,” Advani added.

Advani also denied that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was “isolated” over its stance seeking the prime minister’s resignation on the Comptroller and Auditor General’s (CAG) report.

Pointing to a press conference held by his party colleagues Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley, Advani said coal blocks allocated without auction should be cancelled and there should be fresh bidding.

The CAG had earlier this month said in its report that lack of transparency in the allocation of coal blocks to private players resulted in a loss of a whopping Rs.1.86 lakh crore ($37 billion) to the exchequer as on March 11 last year.

The prime minister was in charge of the coal ministry for a major part between 2004 and 2009.
