Agra : Students and activists continued to protest here Tuesday against the brutal gang-rape in Delhi of a young woman who remains in critical condition.
The “Wake Up Agra” group held a candlelight march to Shahid Smarak in the busy Sanjay Place commercial complex.
Women’s groups have been demanding exemplary punishment for rape, with some activists favouring death sentence.
Many activists have gone to Delhi to take part in street protests there.
Girls of Agra University took out a march demanding death sentence to those who raped the 23-year-old woman — and all rapists.
Jain Yuva Sangh members marched on the streets with banners. The girls’ wing of National Cadet Corps also took out a procession and sought safety for women on the streets.
Women activists urged police to act against eve-teasers near schools and colleges.
“The resentment is deep. We want justice and assurance of safety for girls,” said activist Mukta.
Similar demonstrations have been reported from the nearby districts of Firozabad, Mathura, Hathras and Aligarh.
