New Delhi : An Indian Army soldier Friday entered the Limca Book of Records by flying 350-km non-stop in a powered hang glider from Bikaner to Sanderav in Rajasthan.
Naib Subedar Paramjit Singh of the Regiment of Artillery set the record by quashing the previous unvalidated record of 325 km set by Briton Gerry Breen in 1979 by flying from London to Paris, according to Jodhpur defence spokesperson Lt. Col. S.D. Goswami.
The flight was carried out under the aegis of Army Adventure Nodal Centre (Hang Gliding) based at the School of Artillery at Devlali, according to Indian Army spokesperson Col. Jagdeep Dahiya in New Delhi.
The record was set as part of a 700-km cross country flight in three days by an army team.
Paramjit Singh flew in a hang glider with special harness that had a 120 cc, 15 horsepower motor and a carbon-graphite propeller attached to it.
The harness give the glider pilot the ability to take off from any small clear patch of ground and cruise at a speed of 70 kmph for several hours depending on the wind direction.
