Counter opposition, Farooq exhorts party legislatrs

Jammu : The ruling National Conference held its party legislature meeting in Jammu on Wednesday to counter the “provocations” of main opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

The meeting was held on the eve of the budget session of the state legislature beginning here Thursday.

Party president Farooq Abdullah, who is also a union cabinet minister, emphasised the importance of the legislative business in a democracy and urged the legislators to discuss the issues pertaining to the development of the state and the welfare of the people, a spokesman of the party said.

He also advised the ministers to heed the voice of the people articulated through the legislators on the floor of the house.

Farooq said, “The coalition government in the state in the last three years has made certain notable achievements, and the ruling coalition legislators together should showcase those achievements in the upper and lower houses through effective and informed debate.”

The party president also asked the National Conference legislators to maintain the coalition dharma and work in close coordination with the coalition partner Congress.

“He advised the legislators to maintain composure despite the anticipated provocations by the opposition, which he said is frustrated and does not really have any issue worth its while to pursue,” the spokesman said.

The achievements of the coalition government headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah were highlighted at the meeting.
