New Delhi : Taking strong action against erring policemen, Delhi Police punished over 10,800 of them in 2011 — a tenfold increase over 2010, it was announced Friday.
Over 10,800 policemen were handed various punishments including dismissal on charges of corruption or dereliction of duty, the Delhi Police’s Annual Report said.
As many as 160 police were assigned to other duties and two terminated from service, the report said.
As many as 634 were punished with forfeiture of service, 22 with reduction in pay and 205 with withholding of increments. Another 1,815 personnel were censured.
Departmental enquiry was initiated against 1,586 policemen while 492 were suspended.
In 2010, a total of 1,303 policemen faced punishment.
Police Commissioner B.K. Gupta said that the action taken against erring policemen was greater in 2011.
