Kolkata: India and Bangladesh will settle through dialogue the beating up of a suspected Bangladeshi cattle smuggler by Indian border force personnel that has caused outrage, and it will have no impact on relations, union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said here Saturday.
“Such things happen from time to time. There is no need to blow up such incidents,” Mukherjee told mediapersons at his residence here.
“The two countries will settle the matter through dialogue,” he said.
Eight Border Security Force (BSF) soldiers were suspended Wednesday in the wake of circulation of a video clip allegedly showing the men beating a naked man, whose hands were tied behind his back, near the Indo-Bangla border in Murshidabad. The footage was aired by news channels, triggering outrage.
The BSF has also ordered a high level probe, headed by an officer of the rank of commandant, into the incident.
