Cheating case against former UP legislator Irshad Khan

Lucknow: A case of cheating has been registered against former Uttar Pradesh legislator and Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) leader Irshad Khan for not paying Rs.42 lakh to a contractor who built a private school, police said Thursday.

Inspector General of Police Ashutosh Pandey told IANS that contractor Vijay Yadav, a resident of Aashiana power house area, lodged a complaint here that Khan had refused to pay his dues.

The dues are linked to the construction of a private Ram Prasad Bismil Memorial Public School in Muglana neighbourhood in 2009, the complaint said.

The BSP leader’s brother Naushad Khan was also named in the complaint, police said.

The contractor said the former legislator from Sarojini Nagar recently threatened and beat him up when he demanded the money, police said.

The cost of the school building was Rs.1.44 crore but after paying a little over Rs.1 crore the former legislator refused to pay the remaining amount, the complaint said.
