Lucknow : The Uttar Pradesh government Wednesday sacked thousands of contractual employees in urban local bodies who were appointed by the previous Mayawati regime of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), allegedly violating prescribed rules and regulations.
Urban Development Minister Mohd Azam Khan had taken a tough stand on the issue and ordered their sacking.
In a government order (GO) issued by principal secretary, urban development, Praveer Kumar to all district magistrates, nagar ayukts and director, local bodies, instructions have also been issued “to ensure that these employees are not paid salary from the local body fund from the next month”.
The order, however, shall not be applicable to the safai (cleanliness) workers appointed in the urban local bodies on contract basis under the guidelines of the government.
Moreover, the contractual employees who were appointed on the basis of government’s approval for various schemes funded by the central government and also those contractual employees who were appointed under court orders from time to time shall not be covered by this order, it was clarified.
Recently, the government had received complaints that appointments of contractual employees in a large number were made in the urban local bodies by not complying with the prevalent rules and regulations.
The complainant had alleged that it resulted in increasing the financial burden on local bodies.
