Congress free to leave ministry: Trinamool

By IANS,

Kolkata : A day after Congress leaders expressed their desire to walk out of the Trinamool Congress-led alliance government in West Bengal, the Trinamool Saturday said they were free to do so and their departure would not affect the stability of the government.

“If they want, they can leave the state government. They are free to walk out of the alliance. We don’t need them. Their departure would not affect the stability of the state government,” Trinamool leader and state Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim said.

Saying that it was becoming “very difficult” to work with the Trinamool Congress after its party chief Mamata Banerjee “unceremoniously discarded” Pranab Mukherjee’s candidature for president, the Congress legislative party Friday wrote to the party leadership seeking permission to quit the ruling alliance.

“The Congress MLAs who are not ministers are having a problem. But the ministers of Congress are not saying anything … they are quite happy with us,” Hakim said.
