Madurai: Muslims are over-represented in the prison system but when states issue list of prisoners to be released for good conduct they are always under-represented.

National Women’s Front (NWF) is planning to organize rallies in various cities of Tamil Nadu to highlight the plight of Muslim prisoners, said Ms. S. Fathima Gani, Tamil Nadu State President of the organization in a press conference on June 21st.
Government of Tamil Nadu is preparing a list of prisoners to be released on the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister C. N. Annadurai. The birth anniversary is on September 15.
National Women’s Front is the women’s wing of Popular Front of India.
NWF listed a number of cases of prisoners release since 1975 in Tamil Nadu but not a single Muslim ever found his/her name in these lists until 2009 when for the first time 10 Muslim prisoners who were nearing the completion of their terms were released.
