Aligarh: Dr. Noor Mohammad, a 1977 batch retired IAS officer took over charge as Vice Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University on 15th March. He paid rich floral tributes to the founder Sir Syed Ahmad Khan at his tomb on Friday. “My priority is to restore the essential ethos of this great seat of learning and will take strong preemptive steps to maintain law and order at the campus,” said the new VC.
Born on July 30, 1951, Dr. Noor Mohammad is a distinguished alumnus of the Aligarh Muslim University from where he obtained his B. Sc. (Hons.) and M. Sc. (Physics) from 1969-73 and topped the list in both the examinations and got gold medals. He earned his doctorate later from the University of Lucknow in Economics. He also did his M. Sc. in Administrative Sciences and Development Problems from York University, UK.

In 1977, Dr. Noor Mohammad topped the list in the Civil Services examination and was allotted the UP cadre. He retired from the Indian Administrative Services on July 31, 2011.
He devoted his career to providing responsive and transparent governance that empowers civil society and eradicates administrative malpractices such as corruption and nepotism.

He held important positions like Secretary, National Disaster Management Authority, Govt. of India, Member Secretary, NCR Planning Board, Chief Electoral Adviser, UNDP Kabul, International Election Commissioner, Afghanistan, Deputy Election Commissioner, Election Commission of India and Chief Electoral Officer, UP.
