Islamabad : Lt Gen Zaheerul Islam took charge Monday as the new chief of Pakistan’s powerful Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), succeeding Lt Gen Shuja Pasha. Simultaneously, the Pakistan Air Force also got a new head.
A former Karachi Corps commander, Islam succeeds Pasha, who retired Sunday, Geo News reported. Pasha was a close confidant of the army chief, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.
Both Pasha and Kayani came under intense criticism after the stealthy American command raid on Pakistan’s Abbottabad town led to the killing of Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in May last year.
Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt Monday took over as the new air chief. He succeeds Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman, Geo News reported.
Butt was commissioned in the Pakistan Air Force after graduating from the PAF Academy, Risalpur, in March, 1977.
He has flown various fighter and training aircraft and is a qualified flying instructor. Before taking over his new assignment, Butt was the PAF vice chief.
