Kolkata : Famed constitutional expert, former West Bengal advocate general and Left ex-MP Balai Roy died at a private nursing home Thursday night, party sources said.
Roy, 87, was admitted to the nursing home with old age problems. The end came at around 8 pm.
President of the All India Lawyers’ Union, Roy was rated as a leading constitutional expert in the country.
He served as state advocate general between 2001 and 2011 during the Left Front regime.
In 1996, Roy was elected to the 11th Lok Sabha as a Communist Party of India-Marxist candidate from Burdwan, the sources said.
