Kabul : At least 17 Taliban militants have been killed in a countrywide military operation in Afghanistan, the interior ministry said Thursday.
As many as 54 rebels were arrested, Xinhua reported.
Weapons including AK-47 rifles and anti-vehicle mines were seized. The ministry did not say whether security forces suffered any casualties.
The Taliban had announced the launch of a “spring offensive” starting May 3 against Afghan and NATO forces.
Over 800 militants have been killed and more than 1,450 detained so far this year, the ministry said.
