The carcass of the male adult tiger was found late Sunday near the guest house of the Kishanpur sanctuary in Lakhimpur Kheri, around 130 km from here, according to officials.

Officials said the actual reason for the tiger’s death would be known only after the autopsy but they said the body bore serious wounds that could have been the handiwork of a poacher.

The tiger appeared to have died a few days back. It had blood oozing from his mouth and had a deep gash near his tail, an official told IANS.

There were marks on the ground, suggesting that somebody had tried to drag the carcas from the place where it was found.

The incident raises serious questions about the safety of the felines at the Dudhwa National Park despite supposed round-the-clock surveillance by forest guards.

On May 24, an 18-year-old male tiger was found dead near the Ghanara Ghat in the jungles of Haripur range in Pilibhit district, around 250 km from here. The autopsy report said infection was to blame.

The next day, another male tiger was found dead in the same area.
