Police recovered Rs.28 lakh in cash, weapons, ammunition, police uniforms and a car from the possession of the arrested people, a police department spokesman said here.

He said the members of the gang were wanted in 24 other criminal cases in seven districts of Haryana.

Inspector General of Police Alok Mittal said that on Nov 3, a businessman of Gurgaon was returning with his son in a car from Gugamedi Dham in Rajasthan when they were stopped by two men in police uniforms near Basana village. As they stopped, the criminals were joined by five to six other men who kidnapped them.

“The next day the men let off the businessman near Baba Mastnath University and drove away with his son. On Nov 5, the criminals called the businessman and demanded Rs.50 lakh as ransom. The family gave Rs.37 lakh to the kidnappers Nov 7, after which the boy was freed,” Mittal said.

Following this, police formed four teams to track the criminals and during the joint operation Tuesday, an encounter ensued after the vehicle of the criminals was signalled to stop. They were arrested after the encounter.
