Protesters showed placards against the brutal killings of Rohingya Muslims in Burma and against what they termed as ‘misleading and racist comments’ of Aung San Su Kyi on the issue.

Speaking to TCN Akhlaq Ahmad, Coordinator of APCR said, “Our protest is against Aung San Su Kyi’s observations terming the oppression and ethnic cleansing of Rohingya minorities as law and order and cross border problem.”

Terming her remarks as ‘racist’ Ahmad added that it was uncalled for from someone who pretends to be champions of democracy and freedom.

When asked about the clashes, Aung San Su Kyi, who is on a trip to India, told a TV channel: “This is a huge international tragedy… I think the citizenship law really must be looked in to… Bangladesh will say all these people have come over from Burma and the Burmese say all these people have come over from Bangladesh.”

After 45 minutes of protest all the protesters were detained by the police and escorted to the Greater Kailash Police Station in a police van. They were later released after taking their name, address and phone numbers by the police.
