New Delhi : The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Tuesday issued notice to the West Bengal government over the alleged killing of a person in police firing in Nadia district.
“We have issued notice to the West Bengal chief secretary and police to submit reports in the matter within four weeks,” said an official of the NHRC here.
According to recent media reports, some villagers had put up a blockade to seek permission to organise Jagadhatri Puja at a particular place in Tehatta village.
Finding it difficult to remove the blockade, the sub-divisional police officer of Tehatta, along with a few police personnel, opened fire at the people resulting in the death of one person, the media reports said.
Eight policemen were also reportedly injured in the clash between the police and ten villagers.
