Hyderabad: Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee has condemned police action on Telangana activists who went to participate Telangana March on Sunday 30th September 2012.
“It is a matter of concern that the government did not keep its promise and gave free hands to police personnel to attack people with lathi charge, tear gas and rubber bullets. On one side it gave permission to meet at Necklace road instead of Hussain Sagar and on the other side started arrests and put barricades at all the entry points into the city and cancelled trains and buses to reach the city from all over the Telangana region,” Mr. Lateef Mohd. Khan, General Secretary, CLMC said.
“Even the students at Osmania University were stopped with lathi-charge and tear gas when they wanted to take rally to reach Necklace road. Moreover the gates of Osmania University were closed. At every point whereever the people gathered police started either arresting them or lathi charge on them. This reflects how both central government and state government are playing with the sentiments of innocent Telangana people,” Mr. Khan further said.
He demanded the government to respect the democratic rights of the people and resolve the issue of Telangana.
“The government should take decision on Telangana; it should not try to dissolve the issue. It should respect the democratic rights of the people for the demand of the separate Telangana state. Delay on this matter will lead the situation out of control. Chief Minister and DGP of Andhra Pradesh are responsible for the worst situation of today in Hyderabad city,” he said.
Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee has demanded the Central government to address the issue in “positive manner and respect the democratic demand of Telangana people.”
