Kolkata : With the proposals of foreign equity in pension and insurance getting the nod of the union cabinet, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) Thursday said it would oppose the proposals on the floor of parliament.

“We will oppose these anti-people policies in both houses of parliament. We will also launch movements across the country to protest against these policies,” TMC Member of Parliament (MP) Sougato Roy said.

Roy said the proposals of allowing FDI in pension and insurance will not get the support of UPA allies.

“I am sure that these policies will not even get the support of the UPA allies on the floor of parliament. We can’t allow the government to function in favour of multinational companies,” said Roy.

Ever since withdrawing support from the UPA on the issues of economic reforms, the Trinamool has been attacking the government, demanding a roll back of FDI in retail and hike in diesel prices.

Six TMC central ministers had submitted their resignations Sep 21 to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in protest against allowing FDI in retail, diesel price hike and the cap on subsidised cooking gas cylinders.
