Guwahati : Police and forest officials Sunday recovered another carcass of a rhino from near the Kaziranga National Park in Assam. Its horn had already been removed by poachers.
The carcass of the rhino was recovered from Haldibari area under Dolamara forest range of the park in Karbi Anglong district, Forest officials said. The rhino was killed earlier this month.
According to police, the recovery followed the confession of three poachers, arrested Friday.
“The poachers confessed that they killed the rhino Oct 3 and removed the horn,” a senior official of the Karbi Anglong police said, adding that further interrogation is on to trace the horn.
According to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, a total of 42 rhinos died in Kaziranga National Park in Assam this year, of which, 15 were killed by poachers and 27 died due to floods.
