“After hearing both parties, the court today (Friday) passed the order rejecting the plea of the defence (Sangma),” public prosecutor I.C. Jha told IANS.

Sangma has been accused of several crimes, including killings and extortion in insurgency-ravaged Garo Hills of Meghalaya.

A former deputy superintendent of police, Sangma deserted the police force and floated the GNLA in November 2009.

GNLA is fighting for a separate Garoland. Sangma was arrested July 30 near the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya.
