British policewoman sacked for shoplifting

London: A 46-year-old woman police officer was suspended from duty after she was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting cosmetics from a supermarket, a media report said Saturday.

Superintendent Rachel Adams allegedly took 30 pounds worth of cosmetics from a store in August. She was arrested on the same day at her home on the Kings Hill estate in Kent, the Daily Express reported.

Adams — a member of the Kent force and a commander of the Medway area covering a number of towns like Chatham and Gillingham — was questioned and later released on bail.

A police source said Adams denies any wrongdoing.

She took over the command in June last year, after 12 months as deputy commander.

Another woman officer is now filling her post, the report said.
