Candle march held in Lucknow to demand judicial probe into Batla House encounter

Lucknow: Eminent human and civil rights activists, students and common people on Tuesday participated in a candle march taken on out here on the eve of the fourth anniversary of Batla House encounter. The protestors demanded judicial probe into the shootout which claimed lives of two Azamgarh youths and a Delhi Police officer on 19th September 2008 at Batla House area of Jamia Nagar in New Delhi.

The candle march organized by Rehai Manch was taken out from GPO roundabout at Hazratganj area and ended at Mahatma Gandhi statue in Lucknow. The protestors were raising slogans against Congress for not ordering a judicial probe into the encounter and Samajwadi Party for maintaining silence on the issue in Parliament and for not fulfilling its electoral promise to release innocents languishing in jails in terror cases. They were also shouting slogans against secret agencies for their communal attitude.

Eminent persons who took part in the protest included Siddharta Kalhans, Sandeep Pandey, Rajesh Kumar, Md Shoaib, Tahira Hasan, KK Vats, Randheer Singh Suman, Ajay Singh, Prof. Ramesh Dixit, Renu Mishra, Gufran Siddique, Tarique Shafique, Shahnawaz Alam, Rajeev Yadav.


On 19th September, the organizers are holding a seminar on the similar issue at press club in Lucknow.
