Beijing : Beijing has set new standards for Chinese language teachers who teach foreign students, authorities said.
The education department has introduced a new qualification certificate for teachers, the Global Times reported Monday.
A total of 400 teachers have qualified under the new system, and are working 95 public schools in Beijing.
“Currently, many Chinese language teachers were former Chinese or English teachers before they transferred to the international departments in those schools,”
“We want to establish a stricter entry system for Chinese language teachers, to give them a more professional identity,” said Gu Tiangang, director of Beijing International Centre for Chinese Language, affiliated to Beijing municipal commission of education.
