Raipur: HCL Infosystems has bagged a major contract from Chhattisgarh’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government for supply of laptops to final year engineering and medical students in the state, official sources said on Thursday.
Officials said that the contract has been placed by Infotech & Biotech Promotion Society (CHiPS), the nodal agency for procurement of laptops. The laptops to be distributed by Chief Minister Raman Singh during his six-phase Vikas Yatra, starting from on May 6 from Maoist heartland Dantewada.
Raman Singh, who is heading the BJP government in the mineral-rich state since December 2003, will cover 2,700 km during his Vikas Yatra and will visit 81 assembly seats out the total 90 seats in a bid to brief people about the development works being carried out by his government.
The Vikas Yatra is seen as a preparedness for assembly polls which is scheduled for later this year. The Yatra will conclude on June 15 in the tribal heartland of Surguja.
Official sources said that Singh will make a series of announcements for welfare schemes during his Vikas Yatra and will distribute laptops free of cost to students of engineering, medical and university students.
