10 killed in Iraq attacks

    Baghdad : At least 10 people were killed and 30 got injured in separate bombing and shooting incidents across Iraq Saturday, police said.

    Five people were killed and 11 wounded when a roadside bomb exploded near a crowded medical centre in Diyala province’s capital city Baquba, some 65 km northeast of here, Xinhua reported citing a police source.

    In another incident, three people were killed and 11 wounded in a roadside bomb explosion at a popular market in Sadiyah town, some 60 km north of Baquba, the source added.

    A group of gunmen shot dead a policeman near his house in Maqdadiyah city, some 40 km northeast of Baquba, the police source said.

    In Iraq’s capital Baghdad, gunmen shot dead an employee of the Sunni endowment in a drive-by shooting while he was in his car in the predominantly Sunni district of Adhamiyah, said a police officer who did not wish to be named.

    Three people were wounded when a bomb planted in a parked car in Fallhjah city, some 50 km west of Baghdad, went off, a police source said.

    Colonel Ibrahim al-Hamdani, police chief of Hamam Alil town, escaped with wounds after twin roadside bomb explosions near his convoy near Mosul, which is some 400 km north of here, a police source said.

    Four policemen were also wounded as the blasts caused damage to two police vehicles, the source said.

    Iraq is witnessing its worst eruption of violence in five years, which raised fears that the country is sliding back to a full-blown civil conflict that peaked in 2006 and 2007, when the monthly death toll sometimes exceeded 3,000.
