Chennai : Tamil activists stoned the Bank of Ceylon here Thursday injuring two employees, a day before Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa visits India for pilgrimage.
Some windowpanes were damaged in the sudden attack, a police officer said, adding a search was on for the “miscreants”.
According to police, security has been stepped up at all Sri Lankan institutions in Tamil Nadu.
Rajapaksa’s visit to Bodh Gaya in Bihar and Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh Friday has been denounced by political parties in Tamil Nadu, where he is widely seen as a “war criminal”.
The Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisation (TESO), which is allied to the DMK, has vowed to protest Friday against the Rajapaksa visit.
Another group, Naam Tamizhar Iyakkam, staged protests in different parts of Chennai Thursday.
Political parties like MDMK and VCK have said they will take to the streets Friday.
Tamil Nadu political parties blame Rajapaksa for the death of thousands of Tamil civilians in the final stages of the military offensive that crushed the Tamil Tigers in May 2009.
