Moscow: An unconscious Russian man froze to death after he was put in a morgue freezer alive due to negligence of doctors, an expert said.
Doctors discovered the unconscious body of a 57-year-old man in his apartment in Pskov region Feb 4 and sent him to the morgue after pronouncing him dead.
The man was immediately put in a freezer, said Mikhail Vinogradov, head of the Center for Legal and Psychological Assistance in Extreme Situations.
However, a forensic investigation showed the man was still alive when brought to the morgue.
Vinogradov said doctors and morgue workers had violated a rule that after a person is proclaimed dead, his body has to be kept for a certain period of time at room temperature.
Authorities have called for an investigation, and the head doctor and a deputy have been suspended from service.
