He invited her to visit India.

Mukherjee conveyed his warm felicitations to Park Geun-hye on her assumption of the office of the South Korean president. Park Geun-hye was sworn in as South Korea’s first female president Monday, pledging economic revival and educational system overhaul and urging North Korea to rid itself of its nuclear programme.

In his letter, Mukherjee noted that both countries “share an abiding friendship based on many common values and interests”, said a press release.

He added that the bilateral strategic partnership was “marked by close and wide ranging cooperation” and that he looked forward to working with President Park to further strengthen and expand India-South Korea ties.

Mukherjee also extended a formal invitation to Park to visit India this year, when both countries celebrate the 40th anniversary year of establishment of diplomatic relations.

He observed that her visit would be an occasion for both governments to impart further momentum to bilateral initiatives, towards forging closer ties.

“The new administration will usher in a new era of hope premised on a revitalizing economy, the happiness of our people, and the blossoming of our culture,” Park said in an inauguration speech.
