Kuwait City: Indo-Kuwait Friendship Society, a non-profit socio-cultural NRI Friendship Association in Kuwait has asked Govt. of Kerala to establish “University of Arabic” in the State of Kerala. The University should have jurisdiction all over Kerala.
A statement issued by IKFS argues that Arabic is still used as the mother-tongue language for more than 500 million people in Asian and African Continents especially the Persian Gulf countries in addition to one of the official languages of United Nations. “Learning Arabic will increase job opportunities for Indian students.”
IKFS says that there are more than 10 million Indian expatriates working in Gulf Arab countries and majority of them are poor in Arabic conversation. “Therefore, for Indian expatriates the establishment of an Arabic university will help them adjust better to work in these countries,” opined IKFS.
IKFS has sent memorandum to Chief Minister of Kerala Mr. H.E. Ommen Chandy, and Minister of Education H.E. P.K. Abdu Rabb, Government of Kerala requesting the immediate establishment of an Arabic university in Kerala.
“Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit (SSUS)” has been established in the State of Kerala in 1993 to impart knowledge of Sanskrit as well as Indology, Indian Culture, Indian Languages, Indian Philosophy, Fine Arts, Foreign Languages and Social Science. There are more Sanskrit colleges in the states of Bihar, Delhi, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Orissa, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh financed by state in addition to Kerala.
There are two Arabic universities in India- Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic & Persian University in Bihar and Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Urdu, Arabi-Farsi University in Uttar Pradesh.
