Panaji : An enquiry was ordered Wednesday into an incident of shooting on the New Year’s eve at Morjim Beach near here, police said.
A complaint has been filed against unidentified persons for ransacking two night clubs where the New Year parties were going on. No arrests had been made yet.
“A deputy superintendent of police (DSP) has been asked to probe the shootout which happened when there were scores of people partying at Morjim beach (20 km from here),” a police officer said.
“The shootout endangered their lives,” the officer said. The shooting may be due to business rivalry between club owners, he added.
Speaking to IANS, Superintendent of Police Vijay Singh said that a complaint has been registered.
While the police have officially denied the shooting incident, eyewitnesses said that some rounds were fired in the air.
“Everyone saw the shooting. One person had covered his face and started shooting in the air, asking his colleagues to move out and asking others in the club to back off,” an eyewitness said.
