Communal violence in Maharashtra town of Dhulia over Indo-Pak match

Mumbai: According to reports, communal violence broke out on Sunday, at around 2.0 pm in the northern Maharashtra town of Dhule (Dhulia). Reports suggest at least three people have been killed and over 50 seriously injured in stone pelting that includes some policemen.

According to early reports, tension began over Sunday’s Indo-Pak match. Speaking to TCN Irfan Engineer of All India Secular Forum said, “Riots apparently began over today’s cricket match, but deeper causes are not known yet.”

In Macchibazar area three persons from the minority community died, while 35 others injured by bullets are in serious conditions. 150 more have been injured.

At around 7.20 pm curfew was declared as from Machichbazar to Madhopura were still burning.

Matters reportedly began after young man selling wada paw was brutally attacked and after which 4-5 others were also attacked. Police allegedly stood by while people belonging to communal organisations looted from homes and shops.

Police allegedly also misbehaved with women who were trying to protect their homes from loot and burning.

A young boy Saud, who was returning from classes, was shot dead among others.
