“We have decided to sanction 18 new posts to set up a new additional and district court at Kochi. It will deal with only cases pertaining to the exploitation of women and children,” Chandy told reporters after a cabinet meeting.

“With the high court also taking up the issue, things will be now be speeded up,” Chandy said.

The demand for a special court for such cases gained momentum after Dec 16, 2012 Delhi gang-rape in which a 23-year-old woman was brutally assaulted in a moving bus. The para-medical student succumbed to her injuries Dec 29.
