Thiruvananthapuram : Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is likely to give the Congress’ brainstorming session beginning Friday at Jaipur a miss. The reason? He is not quite comfortable in north Indian winter.
The ‘Chintan Shivir’ will end with the All India Congress Committee meeting Sunday.
A source close to Chandy said that his doctor had told him that with his sore throat, it would not be a great idea to set out to Jaipur.
“His throat is bad, and with the weather in Jaipur so cold, his doctor said he had better just stay here,” a source close to the chief minister said, requesting anonymity.
Sixty-nine year old Chandy, a workaholic, and someone who zips across the state with ease, has not been in the best of health of late.
In 2006, at the meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Chandy slipped on snow and fell. He needed surgery in the hip after that fall.
Chandy’s wife Mariamma is glad that her husband has chosen to stay home. Ever since the fall, Mariamma has been anxious, watching hawk-eyed as her husband travels.
State Congress chief Ramesh Chennithala is set to attend the Congress meeting at Jaipur.
