Washington: US President Barack Obama Wednesday unveiled an expansive package of proposals to reduce gun violence, a month after a mass shooting at a school in Connecticut killed 26 people including 20 children.
The comprehensive package of proposals include renewing an expired assault weapons ban and expanding background checks for gun buyers, Xinhua reported.
The Obama administration’s move comes in the wake of the shocking massacre at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut Dec 14.
While the tragedy has renewed calls for gun control among the American public, the National Rifle Association, the country’s leading gun rights organisation and lobby group, has refused to back some of the proposals
