Why no Goa mourning for Khursheed Alam Khan, asks NCP

Panaji : The BJP-led Goa government’s failure to declare a day’s official mourning following the death of former governor Khursheed Alam Khan last week, shows that the party is in the grip of the RSS, the Goa NCP said Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference in Panaji, senior vice president of the Nationalist Congress Party Jose Philip D’Souza said that when another former Goa governor Kidar Nath Sahani, who, he said, had Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) links, died in October last year, the Parrikar-led administration announced official mourning for one day.

“Why was the same courtesy not extended to Khan, who died last week? He was also Goa governor. Is it because he is from the minority community?” D’Souza asked.

“This is the BJP’s communal politics,” he said.

Sahani had served as Goa governor 2002-2004 during the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) alliance regime.

Khan, the father of union Minister for External Affairs Salman Khursheed, was Goa governor 1989-1991. He died of a heart ailment aged 95 last Saturday.
