SDPI wins 17 seats in Karnataka local body elections

Bengaluru: Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has opened its account in Karnataka local body elections with the party winning 17 seats. The party candidate also defeated sitting mayor of Mangalore.

Some highlights of the SDPI performance:

* SDPI won 17 seats in the state
* It finished at No. 2 on 18 seats
* In Mangalore, SDPI candidate Ayaz defeated present Mayor Gulnaz Banu
* SDPI retained 4 seats in Mysore Corporation
* In Bantwal, constituency of Dakshin Kannada Congress president B. Ramanatha Rai, SDPI won three seats

SDPI candidate Umar Sullya won 14th ward in Sulya Municipality Town Panchayath. Umar won the seat defeating BJP candidate Jinnappa while Congress had to content for 3rd slot.

SDPI candidate Zarina Abdul Rauf from 10th ward Akkarekere, Ullal Municipality Town Panchayath won the election for 134 votes against congress Candidate Jameela.

In Bantwal SDPI candidate IMR Iqbal won the election from Gudinabali 12nd Ward, while Munish Ali won from 7th Ward Bantwal Kelaginapete and Mumtaz won 17th Ward Thalapadi, B.C.Road.

In Mangalore City Corporation election SDPI candidate Ayaz won election from 5th Ward in Krishnapur 5th Block. According to the reports he defeated present mayor of Mangalore mayor Gulzar Banu for 634 votes.

In Chamraj Nagar CMC SDPI won 4 seats. Now the party is King Maker for Chamraj CMC.

In Mulbagal Town Panchayath, the party won one seat while another one was draw which later went for opponents in toss.

In Shimogga CMC the party won one seat.

In Mysore Corporation 4 SDPI candidates won the election. R.Ravindar Kumar from 41 Ward, S.Swami from 51 Ward, Madeva from 39 ward and Reshma Jabeen are winning candidates. Mysore was a strong hold of Ex Congress Minister and present MLA Tanveer Sait.

In Gulbarga Corporation, the party won one seat.
