Metropolitan Magistrate U.M. Padwad granted Ram Kadam and Kshitij Thakur bail on a surety of Rs.15,000 each and directed them to appear before the Crime Branch office of the Mumbai police every week, a police official said.

Kadam and Thakur were among the five legislators who thrashed Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Suryawanshi on the first floor of Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan March 19. The two surrendered before the Crime Branch of the Mumbai police Thursday.

While Thakur is an Independent legislator, Kadam belongs to the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena. The other three legislators who attacked Suryawanshi are Independent legislator Pradeep Jaiswal, Shiv Sena’s Rajan Salvi, and the BJP’s Jaikumar Rawal.

All the five legislators were suspended from the state assembly till December this year.

The provocation for the attack, described by several political leaders as a “Black Day” in the state legislature’s history, was that Suryawanshi stopped Thakur’s vehicle for overspeeding on the Rajiv Gandhi Bandra-Worli Sea Link and fined him last week.
