Aligarh: Opposing the decision of the University Grants Commission (UGC) to appoint a committee under chairmanship of Prof. AM Pathan to draft a bill for the uniform administration of all central Universities, Prof. Razaullah Khan pointed out that the move of the government will adversely affect the autonomy of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

He was addressing a meeting of the Forum for Muslim Studies & Analysis (FMSA), Aligarh at Media Centre Aligarh. He said that AMU has a distinct character and the uniform administration will negatively affect it.

National President of Central University Research Scholar Association (CURSA) Jasim Mohammad said that the AMU has been entrusted with the responsibility to promote the educational and cultural advancement of Muslims of India under section 5(2) (c) of the AMU Act 1980. The uniform administration will undermine that power of AMU. He declared that such a move of the government will be opposed.

At the end of the meeting a resolution was passed demanding that either Prof. Pathan Committee should be dissolved or the AMU must be kept out of its purview. In another resolution FMSA demanded that the minority status of AMU should be restored at the earliest.
