Aligarh: Host Aligarh Muslim University won the title of North Zone Intervarsity Hockey Tournament by defeating Punjabi University, Patiala 6-2.
Syed Nihal Wajid (Captain), Mohd. Asif Siddiqi, Farough Alvi, Lalit Mohan, Mohd. Salman Khan and Mohd. Moied Ahmad scored 1 goal each for AMU while Javinder Singh and Govind scored 1 goal each for Punjabi University, Patiala.

In another match, Kurukshetra University defeated Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi 3-0. Neeraj, Manpreet and Naveen scored 1 goal each for Kurukschetra.
In the prize distribution ceremony, AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah gave away the Winners’ Trophy to the Aligarh Muslim University team while the runner’s trophy was given to the Punjabi University, Patiala by Olympian and ex-member, Indian Hockey team, Syed Jalaluddin Rizvi. Pro-Vice Chancellor Brigadier S. Ahmad Ali felicitated the members of Kurukshetra University team, which secured third position.
