Ohio State University delegation visits AMU, discusses prospects for research cooperation

    Aligarh: One of the largest of the USA, Ohio State University (OSU) and the Aligarh Muslim University has jointly started a research project STEM-ER under which four students of AMU will get postgraduate degree from Ohio University and Ph.D. from Aligarh Muslim University. The joint project became functional today when a four-member delegation of Ohio University visited AMU.

    Presiding over the inaugural ceremony at the Conference room, Department of Physic, Aligarh Muslim University, Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah hoped that AMU will get international recognition with this project and it will certainly help the University to develop a research centre of international repute.

    Explaining the salient feature of the project, Prof. Anil Pradhan of Ohio State University, said that OSU, with more than 64000 students on its rolls, has been pursuing a tremendous expansion plan and it has extended its state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities to the Universities that are invested with significant research potentiality and AMU is one of them. Prof. Pradhan said that United States Information Service (USIS) and OSU will pay for fees, travel and other expenses and AMU will bear the local hospitality. Students will study first semester at OSU and the second semester will be taught at AMU. Some faculty members of Ohio State University will also teach at AMU.

    Besides AMU Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brig. (Retd.) S. Ahmad Ali, a large number of faculty members and students were present on the occasion. Prof. Wasi Haider, Department of Physics conducted the programme.
