New Delhi: Every university in India, besides imparting regular education, should commit itself to social causes observed Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia.
Addressing a group of Special (differently-abled) children from the Child Guidance Centre of Dr. Zakir Husain Memorial Welfare Society (ZHMWS), the Vice-Chancellor expressed Jamia’s willingness to address problems faced by the community in the neighbourhood. He felt that the neighbourhood had a right to seek Jamia’s assistance to solve their problems. In this regard, the Vice-Chancellor assured the community that more and more activities of the ZHMWS, in collaboration with other NGOs, and supported by Jamia, would be carried out for the skill development of the stake-holders in the neighbourhood community. ZHMWS is a social welfare Society of Jamia Millia Islamia of which the Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Patron.
Earlier, the children from the special school showcased their cultural and artistic skills. This function was organized on the eve of Independence Day to enable the children of the Special School who suffer from mild to moderate mental and physical disabilities to participate in, and feel the spirit of Independence Day celebrations.
The Child Guidance Centre, under the aegis of ZHMWS, has a record of many years of service to the community for schooling and training Special Children between the age of 6 to 20 with the assistance of professionally qualified Psychologist, Speech Therapist, Counsellor and Special Educators.
Dr. Baran Farooqi, General Secretary, Dr. Zakir Husain Memorial Welfare Society and Ms. Farhat Nasreen, Project Director, welcomed the Vice-Chancellor and thanked him for his genuine concern for the children from the Special School. A Flag Hoisting ceremony was also organized on this occasion.
