New Delhi : The Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) has launched ‘Operation Khoj’ to trace missing children, an official said.
DCPCR chairperson Arun Mathur Tuesday said after getting information about missing children from all sources, the commission will send and circulate their photographs along with other details to children’s homes in the capital.
In 2013, a total of 7,135 children were reported missing in Delhi, highest since 2008 – the year which saw 6,268 kids go missing.
Mathur said that a network of 45 children’s homes in Delhi has already been created for the purpose.
“In case a child is found in one of the Homes, DCPCR will take appropriate steps to identify and rehabilitate the kid with his or her family, as per law,” he added.
Shashank Shekhar, a member of the commission, will head Operation Khoj.
Mathur also said that DCPCR intends to expand the network of children’s homes, and organise regular meetings for sensitising their staff.
