Cairo: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Saturday called for a quick resumption of Egypt-mediated talks between Israel and the Palestinians that failed last week in order to stop the bloody conflict in Gaza, media reported.
“My main goal is to resume the truce talks in Cairo as soon as possible so as to prevent more bloodshed,” Abbas told a news conference after meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al- Sisi.
He said Egypt was the only country that was able to mediate between Israel and Palestinians, adding that Egypt was going to invite delegates of both sides back to Cairo, Xinhua reported citing Egypt’s state-run Nile TV .
A previous round of truce talks collapsed Tuesday breaking nine days of calm with the conflict resuming between Israel and Hamas.
