Assam CM wishes Hajj pilgrims in Guwahati

Guwahati: On the eve of the departure of the first batch of Hajj pilgrims from Guwahati, prayer for peace, harmony and brotherhood was on the lips on Tuesday. Starting from Assam chief minister to the pilgrims, everybody seek blessing from the Almighty for a peaceful state which has so far witnessed plenty of blood sheds. The first flight for the Hajj pilgrims is today.

On a graceful evening Assam CM Tarun Gogoi said that he wished the Hajj pilgrims to be seeking blessing for a peaceful state. On Tuesday evening Tarun Gogoi formally saw off the Hajj pilgrims of the northeastern states.

“It’s a very sacred moment and I wish all the pilgrims so that their wishes are fulfilled at Mecca. I hope everybody will pray for the peace and harmony of the state in Mecca,” said Gogoi addressing the gathering of Hajj pilgrims and their relatives at Hajji Mushafir Khana in Guwahati. On the occasion he also felicitated 10 pilgrims.

The other ministers who were present on the occasion also appealed for universal brotherhood through the pilgrims.

“We regard these pilgrims as messenger of peace, harmony and brotherhood. I hope they would carry the message of love and brotherhood to that part of the world. I wish for a safe journey for the pilgrims from our region and at the same time we will wait eagerly to receive them warmly,” said Assam agriculture minister Nilamoni Sen Deka.

This year altogether 4064 pilgrims will go for the holy trip in Saudi Arabia which is about 1000 more than the previous year from the northeastern states excluding Tripura. The pilgrims from Assam, Manipur, Nagaland and Meghalaya go to Jeddah from Guwahati airport.

The pilgrims of Tripura go from Kolkata. The Hajj reception committee has already made the arrangements to cater the pilgrims. The first batch of 240 pilgrims will start their journey on August 27 from Guwahati Airport at 6.30 pm.

Nekibur Zaman, Chairman of Northeast Hajj Reception Committee said that they are made all the necessary arrangements to cater the needs of the pilgrims at Hajji Mushafir Khana and at the airport as well.

“We are trying our best so that the pilgrims do not have to face any trouble. We have put our volunteers in place to assist the pilgrims at their needs. We have also placed a money exchange centre here so that they can be ready from here itself,” Zaman said.

On the occasion, ‘Labbaika’ the souvenir of the Hajj Reception Committee was also released.
