Tamil Nadu seeks Cauvery managment board, water regulation panel

Chennai : Tamil Nadu Friday asked the central government to set up the Cauvery Management Board and Cauvery Water Regulation Committee immediately so that the state gets its share of the river’s waters monthly.

The state also requested the central government to advise Karnataka and Kerala governments not to take up any dam projects across Cauvery and Pambar respectively.

A resolution to this effect was adopted in the assembly Friday.

In an another resolution in the assembly, Tamil Nadu urged the central government to take steps to secure the release off 38 fishermen lodged in Sri Lankan jails and the 79 fishing boats impounded by the island nation.

The resolution also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the central government for securing the release of five fishermen from the state sentenced to death by a Sri Lankan court.

The resolution also urged the central government to take steps to recover the Katchatheevu islet transferred to Sri Lanka and also prevent the island nation from hindering the fishermen from Tamil Nadu fishing their traditional waters.
