Aligarh: In 58 years of academic life at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), there was never observed a bias against girl students, instead, female students are more protective in this campus, noted academic Prof Shamim Jairajpuri said here on Tuesday.
“I repeat this again and again that AMU is the safest place for girls and provides every opportunity to them,” said Prof Jairajpuri at the valedictory function of the two day ‘North Zone Vice Chancellors Meet’ as the chief guest of the function.

The noted academic and founder Vice Chancellor, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad, also pointed out: “I have arrived at the end of this conference but with my experience of five years as the vice chancellor of MANUU, I can assure everyone that these conferences are always very useful.”
Defining research as a never-ending process, Prof Jairajpuri urged academics and students to keep updating their researches and findings and make sure that their work contributes for the betterment of society.
Prof Jairajpuri also urged teachers to keep themselves engaged with good research programmes. “I am not saying that a teacher without good researches in his portfolio is not necessarily a good teacher but if teachers take up research and introduce quality work, they will contribute to society more while improving their skills as teachers,” he said.
With an aim to focus on research, which leads to betterment of society, around 50 vice-chancellors from different universities were in Aligarh Muslim University to participate in the North Zone Vice Chancellors’ meet, which was jointly hosted by AMU and the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Dr Rahat Abrar , AMU PRO, said in a release.
In his presidential address, AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah said, “I am certain that the minutes and conclusions of this conference will reach the Ministry of Human Resource and Development. We offered to host this event because besides using an opportunity to project our problems, we in AMU wanted the rest of the country to know that AMU is a secular and modern institution. As the Vice Chancellor, I am committed to providing better research opportunities to academicians and students.”
Vice Chancellor, B R Ambedkar University, Prof M Muzammil also spoke on the occasion. Prof Rakesh Kumar Mudgal, Vice chancellor Teerthanker Mahaveer University, Moradabad, emphasized upon process of institutionalization in universities. Pro Vice Chancellor, Lucknow University, Prof T Usmani called upon researchers to bridge the gap between industrial and university research. Prof Furquan Qamar, secretary general of Association of Indian Universities said that the conference was able to achieve the stated, unstated and implicit objectives. He expressed satisfaction that 57 vice chancellors of North Zone universities participated for the first time in the history of the Association of Indian Universities.
Earlier, Prof A R Kidwai, director, Academic Programme, AMU highlighted the summary of deliberations of the various technical sessions of the two-day meet. He focused upon the burning issues plaguing the Indian academic scenario. Prof Sartaj Tabassum, coordinator of the Vice Chancellors’ meet proposed the vote of thanks. Prof F S Sheerani conducted the valedictory session, the release added.
