Siliguri : A West Bengal court Monday sent three KLO militants including its vice president Tom Adhikary and finance secretary Nilambar Rajbanshi to 14 days’ police custody.
The order was pronounced by the chief judicial magistrate (Jalpaiguri) Shantanu Dutta, before whom the Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) leaders were produced after their arrest Sunday from a village near the India-Nepal border by Special Operations Group personnel.
There are a number of cases of subversive activities against the duo, including the Bajrapara blast in Jalpaiguri district in which six people were killed in December.
While being presented before the court, Adhikary said the Mamata Banerjee led state government should immediately hold discussions with the KLO.
Blamed for a string of attacks in northern West Bengal, the KLO has been demanding a separate Kamtapur state comprising six districts – Cooch Behar, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, North and South Dinajpur and Malda – of West Bengal and four districts – Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Dhubri and Goalpara – of Assam.
