The dusk-to-dawn curfew was imposed in four townships of Meikhtila in Mandalay region, since March 2013, after a communal riot which left more than 10,000 people homeless, Xinhua reported citing local media Voice.

The riot had occurred following a brawl between buyers and sellers over a bit of gold clip on March 20, 2013.

During the clashes, 43 people were killed and 86 injured with 1,355 houses, shops and buildings being destroyed.

The riot later spread to more than a dozen other townships including Yemethin, Tatkon, Gyopingauk, Minhla, Okpho, Nattalin, Zigon, Patigon, Moenyo, Pyay and Thegon.

At least 68 people were arrested, of which 30 have been sentenced to jail.
